But, when you go to the pet store, you’ll no doubt walk past aisle after aisle of brightly-packaged toys and chews. “Indestructible” this and “squeaky” that. Many are made of plastic, rubber, pressed fibers, and other non-natural components that are simply not great nor safe.

MUMBIES REPRESENTS JOY IN THE FACE OF ADVERSITY

In 2021, a Milwaukee Wisconsin animal rescue saved a dog after he was cruelly abandoned for the second time. This sweet boy was not only severely emaciated, his tail was so badly injured that it required amputation. Being overloaded (as most shelters are), the rescue had an urgent need for the dog to find a safe space to heal and took to the community at large — posting his adorable, squishable little face on social media in search of a home. That post made its way to our founder’s newsfeed.

What was supposed to be temporary care turned into a beloved companion. Mumble not only healed fast, he charmed everyone he met with his infectious joy and wiggly butt. Mumbies is named for Mumble’s inspiring spirit; borne not only of the desire to bring planet-friendly, natural products to dog lovers, but also as a vehicle for change. Change that provides critical resources needed to grassroots organizations in our communities who do so much to help our loyal companions.

When will my order ship? 

We usually ship within 1-2 business days of your order being placed unless the item is on backorder. You'll receive an email once your order has shipped. You are able to adjust your shipping information if necessary only prior to shipment. Orders can be canceled and refunded anytime before it ships.

The wood is grown and sourced from independent farms in Vietnam where this specific species of tree grows. Our company and is based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, which is from where you'll receive your chews.

Who is behind Mumbies?

We are a small but passionate team of dog lovers based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin who work full time promoting ethical causes, people, and organizations that are making positive change in the world. Mumbies is a natural extension of our mission. We not only want dogs everywhere to have safe, healthy chews, but we’re also dedicating a portion of our proceeds to helping support local rescues and shelters right in our own backyard. 

What size of Mumbies chew is right for my dog?

The idea of these chews is ... to be chewed! So if you get too big of a chew for your dog, sometimes they can lose interest because they are harder to break down. But, below is a recommended size chart. We recommend if your dog is a heavy chewer, to go with the next size up.

Small: up to 15 lbs. (Avg. length: 6.5 in. | Avg. diameter: 1 in.)

Medium: up to 30 lbs.(Avg. length: 8.5 in.| Avg. diameter: 1.25 in.)

Large: up to 60lbs. (Avg. length: 10.5 in. | Avg. diameter: 1.75 in.)

X-Large: up to 75lbs. (Avg. length: 11.5 in. | Avg. diameter: 2.5 in.)

XX-Large: 76 lbs. and up. (Avg. length: 12.5 in. | Avg. diameter: 3 in.)

How long will Mumbies chews last?

It varies. Mumbies chews can last anywhere from a few weeks to a month or two, depending on the size of your dog, and how aggressive of a chewer they are. A moderate chewer could go through 1-2 a month.

Does it splinter?

Coffee tree wood resists cracking and splintering far better than other woods. The fibrous structure of it means it breaks apart into strands far more easily than shards, making splinters near-nonexistent. As it softens with the dog’s saliva, it frays off the ends in tiny pulp-like fibers. As this is wood, some flaking may happen at the beginning when the bark comes off. While any wood carries a small risk of splinters, coffee tree wood is one of the safest wood chews you can give to your dog. Of course, we don’t recommend allowing your dog to swallow any of the pieces or ever leaving a dog unsupervised with any chew toy, so please always use caution.

Could they crack my dog’s teeth?

This wood is more gentle on a dog’s teeth than antler, bone or nylon, but harder than most native sticks you’d find in the yard that may splinter. The wood is porous so it also softens further as they chew. Dogs tend to gnaw them with their back teeth and it is uncommon to have fracturing unless they  were to bang their teeth on the chew, or they had pre-existing dental conditions. Always take into consideration your dog’s oral health and act accordingly.

Are these safe?

Mumbies chews are to be treated like a toy and not something they consume. These are not suitable for dogs under 6 months. We 100% do not recommend any dog ingesting these chews. These also are not right for many dogs. The ones who purchase these chews, their dogs are already big chewers, usually chew on sticks, and are not attempting to ingest. That being said, if they accidentally ingest tiny bits and pieces, they pass through the digestion. Do not leave a dog unattended with this or any other chew. You will want to test it out and see how your dog does with them and use your best judgment if they are the right fit for your pup.

Is there any caffeine?

No! The coffee tree wood itself does not contain any caffeine whatsoever, only the fruit and beans. So there’s no risk of your dog consuming caffeine.
